Heather Chasteen

Heather Chasteen is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner and Certified Practitioner of the Functional Medicine Academy who provides compassionate, personalized, whole-person psychiatric care for adolescents age 12 and older and adults.

Heather believes that mental wellness is influenced by much more than symptoms alone. Her approach considers the complex interaction between biological, psychological, lifestyle, and environmental factors that affect overall health and well-being. She is passionate about helping patients understand how modifiable lifestyle factors—including exercise, nutrition, sleep, stress management, social connection, and substance use—can significantly impact mental health outcomes. She also emphasizes the importance of identifying nutrient deficiencies and underlying medical contributors through appropriate laboratory testing when clinically indicated.

Heather strives to create a collaborative and supportive environment where patients feel heard, respected, and empowered to take an active role in their care. She believes that lasting improvement occurs when treatment addresses the whole person rather than focusing solely on a diagnosis or medication.

Heather earned her Associate of Science in Nursing from Tallahassee Community College in 2012, her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of West Florida in 2013, and her Master of Science in Nursing with a specialization in Psychiatric Mental Health from Eastern Kentucky University in 2021. She further expanded her training through the Functional Medicine Academy Certification program in 2024 and completed a Post-Master’s Certification in Lifestyle Medicine through Florida State University in 2025.

Prior to becoming a nurse practitioner, Heather gained extensive nursing experience in Neurological Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, inpatient psychiatric nursing, and the Florida Department of Health Breast and Cervical Cancer Program. Her diverse clinical background provides a unique perspective when caring for individuals with complex medical and mental health needs.

Heather holds board certification as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC) and has earned additional credentials as a Diplomate of the American College of Lifestyle Medicine (DipACLM) and a Certified Practitioner of the Functional Medicine Academy (FMACP).

Her clinical interests include depression, anxiety, ADHD, trauma-related disorders, mood disorders, stress-related conditions, and the connection between physical and mental health. She combines evidence-based psychiatric care, thoughtful medication management, functional medicine principles, and lifestyle medicine strategies to help patients achieve meaningful and sustainable improvements in their overall well-being.

Heather considers it a privilege to partner with her patients on their journey toward healing and believes every individual deserves compassionate, evidence-based care that addresses both mental and physical health while supporting long-term wellness.
